Pashley not planning long-term

Burnley caretaker manager Terry Pashley insists the thought of taking the Turf Moor reins on a permanent basis has not crossed his mind. Long-serving youth coach Pashley has taken stewardship of the Clarets squad in the wake of Owen Coyle's and Brian Laws' departures in recent seasons, but Eddie Howe's decision to return to Bournemouth due to family issues last Friday means the 55-year-old will lead a first-team game for the first time when the Clarets entertain Blackpool. Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton and former Wolves chief Mick McCarthy head a host of names linked with the post. Asked whether a weekend victory could see fans calling for his permanent appointment, Pashley said: "It may well do. That's out of my control. What will be, will be. "I'm sure the board of directors will do the correct thing and get the right person for Burnley Football Club because, ultimately, that's the most important thing. On the prospect of succeeding Howe, he added: "I have never really considered it. I've been asked to do this for the foreseeable future, probably up to Saturday. After that? We'll have to wait and see. "From the board it was just 'it's unlikely someone will be there on Saturday', and that was said to the players and myself. Obviously we'll take it from there. "I prefer it that way if I'm being honest because we just look at Blackpool and then if nothing happens we look at (Tuesday's game at) Bristol City." Midfielder Chris McCann, who was Burnley captain until Howe handed the armband to summer signing Jason Shackell at the start of the current campaign, praised Pashley's approach in focusing the squad's full attentions on Saturday's televised Championship derby clash "What's happened has happened and you can't really keep going on about it - you've got look forward," he said. "We've got a big game on Saturday. It's a local derby and we don't want to go out still thinking about what's happened. We've got to go out fully focused on the game. "You know what you're going to get from Pash. He is always really, really fired up. "He works as hard as anybody here and we're looking forward every morning to training."
