Only two winners in top six

05 January 2011 11:30
The Bank Holiday games over the last two days saw just two of the top six pick up maximum points with Watford winning at Scunthorpe on Monday and Cardiff returning to second place with a home win against Leeds last night. It's the same top six but the results have allowed Watford to close the gap on those above them and are now just two points behind Leeds, and with two games in hand. QPR's lead at the top is now five points and again there are three clubs separated only by goal difference behind them, this time Cardiff, Norwich and Swansea.Watford are very much the in form team right now and have not dropped a point since November. With postponements that means they've won five out of five (and that's four wins more than Burnley's longest run of victories this season). The wins have not come against the bottom teams either with both QPR and Cardiff having been beaten and they've scored fifteen goals in the five games.Down at the bottom of the league, Preston had a second successive six-pointer. Having lost to Middlesbrough on Saturday they travelled to Crystal Palace, the team closest to them in the table. It was Palace who came out on top leaving Preston seven points away from safety. Both those clubs are currently, like us, without manager. Phil Brown appears to be the favourite right now for the North End job and could be in place by the time they play in the FA Cup this weekend. It is not thought they will raid Manchester United for further loan players, or Stoke for that matter. We all get a break this week after the hectic four games in nine days with no league fixtures this weekend because of the FA Cup. Our next league opponents are league leaders QPR who we play at home a week on Saturday. The average attendances per club are including this week and are shown below along with the recent results and stats, the leading goal scorers, each club's disciplinary record and those 15th January fixtures. The New Year Bank Holiday ResultsMonday 3rd JanuaryBarnsley 2 Coventry 1Portsmouth 2 Hull 3Crystal Palace 1 Preston 0QPR 2 Bristol City 2Derby 0 Millwall 0Reading 2 Burnley 1Ipswich 0 Nottingham Forest 1Scunthorpe 1 Watford 2Leicester 2 Swansea 1Sheffield United 2 Doncaster 2Middlesbrough 1 Norwich 1.Tuesday 4th JanuaryCardiff 2 Leeds 1.The New Year Bank Holiday StatsBiggest winno team won by more than one goalTotal goals scored32 (17 home - 15 away)Player scoring most goals2Shane Long (Reading)Billy Sharp (Doncaster)Highest Attendance25,010 - Cardiff v LeedsLowest Attendance4,498 - Scunthorpe v WatfordTotal Yellow Cards30Total Red Cards2Most cards in a gameMiddlesbrough v Norwich (5Y) - Graham SalisburyThe leading scorers (league only)14Danny Graham (Watford) - includes 1 penalty13Jay Bothroyd (Cardiff)Kris Commons (Derby) - includes 2 penalties12Luciano Becchio (Leeds)Adel Taarabt (QPR) - includes 5 penalties10Grant Holt (Norwich)Chris Iwelumo (Burnley)Shane Long (Reading) - includes 4 penaltiesLewis McGugan (Nottingham Forest) - includes 2 penaltiesBilly Sharp (Doncaster) - includes 4 penalties9Andy King (Leicester)Jamie Mackie (QPR)Steve Morison (Millwall) - includes 1 penalty8Max Gradel (Leeds) - includes 1 penaltyAdam Hammill (Barnsley)James Hayter (Doncaster)Wes Hoolahan (Norwich) - includes 4 penaltiesBrett Pitman (Bristol City) - includes 3 penaltiesScott Sinclair (Swansea)Marvin Sordell (Watford)Hat Tricks (league only)11th Sep3 - Chris Iwelumo - BURNLEY v Preston14th Sep3 - James Coppinger - DONCASTER v Norwich14th Sep3 - James Vaughan - CRYSTAL PALACE v Portsmouth28th Sep3 - Jon Parkin - Leeds v PRESTON30th Oct3 - Jonny Howson - Scunthorpe v LEEDS13th Nov3 - Luciano Becchio - LEEDS v Bristol City27th Nov3 - Grant Holt - NORWICH v Leeds28th Dec3 - Wes Hoolahan - NORWICH v Sheffield United1st Jan3 - Jason Puncheon - MILLWALL v Crystal PalaceDisciplinary Record (all domestic games)ClubYRClubYRBarnsley380Middlesbrough371Bristol City401Millwall403Burnley434Norwich403Cardiff301Nottingham Forest320Coventry433Portsmouth404Crystal Palace415Preston535Derby421QPR404Doncaster293Reading423Hull472Scunthorpe271Ipswich374Sheffield United365Leeds522Swansea472Leicester312Watford260Average Attendances (league only)AvgeClubHighLow26,733Leeds33,62220,74726,010Derby29,08624,23925,223Norwich26,53223,85223,425Cardiff26,04920,57323,189Leicester30,91919,61122,617Nottingham Forest29,49019,50120,930Hull22,41019,71420,717Sheffield United22,93617,49619,236Ipswich23,10516,72817,135Reading23,67714,02916,693Middlesbrough23,55013,74916,473Coventry28,18412,29216,097Portsmouth19,71913,75115,295Burnley20,45313,65515,034QPR18,05912,04614,793Crystal Palace17,48612,35314,778Swansea17,58412,41114,562Bristol City18,30813,37613,192Watford15,10111,48512,490Barnsley20,30910,56611,989Millwall16,1708,93710,910Preston18,4178,99410,431Doncaster13,6148,9855,700Scunthorpe8,1224,397The Next FixturesSaturday 15th JanuaryBristol City v MiddlesbroughMillwall v IpswichBurnley v QPRNorwich v CardiffCoventry v Sheffield UnitedNottingham Forest v PortsmouthDoncaster v ReadingPreston v LeicesterHull v BarnsleySwansea v Crystal Palace (12:45)Leeds v ScunthorpeWatford v Derby
