Olympic debuts for Cammie and Cork

26 July 2012 22:24
Cameron Howieson and former Claret Jack Cork both made debuts tonight as the men's football got underway in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Both were named as substitutes for their respective countries and both came on in games that proved to be disappointing for both of them.

Howieson was the first for New Zealand, courtesy of them kicking off fifteen minutes earlier than Great Britain. His side was already 1-0 down to Belarus when he came on in the latter stages of their game at Coventry's Ricoh Arena.  He wasn't able to get into the game as Belarus ended the game comfortably.

Soon afterwards, over at Old Trafford, Jack Cork came on for Craig Bellamy, the goalscorer, with Great Britain leading Senegal by a goal to nil. However, a late goal gave Senegal a 1-1 draw in the game.

Both will hope to be involved in their teams' next games. New Zealand face Egypt on Sunday lunchtime at Old Trafford with Great Britain next in action on Sunday evening when they come up against United Arab Emirates at Wembley.
