Nugent agrees Clarets return

Burnley manager Brian Laws has finally been able to bring David Nugent back to Turf Moor on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old initially joined the Clarets from Portsmouth on the final day of the summer transfer window and scored three goals in 17 appearances for the club.

The former Preston North End forward has struggled during his time on the south coast, finding the net just six times in 45 games for the club following his big-money switch from Deepdale.

Laws had said last week: "There's an agreement in place that's been there for a long time with Portsmouth. We're waiting for Portsmouth's reply and the paperwork going ahead.

"We've got to the point where we've done our bit, now we're expecting Portsmouth to do their bit.

"I'm hoping the paperwork will come through in time for the weekend. The paperwork is complicated, but we're exercising the right, and therefore we're expecting Portsmouth to honour their part of the bargain."

Meanwhile, the club have denied that Tyrone Mears is set to complete a move to Sunderland.
