Nugent to stay at Pompey

After failing to find himself a club in the Premier League it now looks very likely that David Nugent will be staying at Portsmouth next season with the club back in the Championship. Nugent spent most of last season on loan with the Clarets, netting six times in the Premier League with all but one of the goals coming in games in which we picked up points. His career looked all but over at Portsmouth, and he made it clear that he wanted to remain in the Premier League, having been at Portsmouth since leaving Preston in a big money transfer in the summer of 2007.Nothing's happened, there didn't seem to be enough money in Horwich to lure him there, and this week he reported back for pre-season training with Pompey with some very positive words from new boss Steve Cotterill."Nugent came in with a massive smile on his face on Thursday," said Cotterill. "He's a brilliant lad who is going to play and score goals for us."He was the first one in on the first day of training and looked fit and refreshed. He has made a statement. Straight in and straight up to me. Different class. Maybe he just needs to be loved. That's what he needs."I've had a chat with him. Does he want to stay? Without a shadow of a doubt."
