Nugent out to impress Clarets

Nugent joined Pompey for £6million in 2007 but has only mustered three league goals from 18 starts and 16 substitute appearances. The 24-year-old striker, who has one cap for England, is excited at the prospect of first-team football and is hoping to return to Pompey in form. Nugent feels he wasn't given a fair crack of the whip at Fratton Park as he was predominately used out wide, rather than through the middle. "I glad to be home really," he told Sky Sports News. "Hopefully I can make the same impact in the north as I did at Preston. "I'm just glad to get away and hopefully get some games under my belt and start scoring some goals. "I don't think I was being given a fair chance. Every time I played it was as a winger. I've come here to play as a striker." Nugent has joined Burnley on loan for the remainder of the season and his first priority is building up match fitness. "I've not set any targets yet," he continued. "I've got to get match fit first and get a few games under by belt. Match fitness is the key thing in football."
