Nugent in Pompey talks

Former Bury and Preston striker David Nugent spent most of last season on loan with Burnley, a player surplus to requirements at Portsmouth despite their perilous position. He returned to Fratton Park at the end of the season but it is still strongly expected that he'll look for an opportunity to move on to pastures new for the beginning of next season. However, new manager Steve Cotterill is hoping that Nugent will commit himself to the club and will remain a Portsmouth player as they look to bounce back after coming through last week's creditors meeting.Cotterill has said of Nugent: "I need to sit down with David and see what he wants to do. He is a good footballer, he can score goals at Championship level and I am not going to forget him or write him off."When Burnley manager, Cotterill was keen to bring Nugent from Bury but at the time it was out of reach financially for the Clarets. This time, he is in a position of trying to hang on to him.
