No rush to get McCann back

Probably the best news to come out of Turf Moor this week is the return to action for Chris McCann who played around 40 minutes of Tuesday's reserve team game against Oldham Athletic. It's the next step for Chris on the road back to full fitness and he himself was happy with the way things went although he's aware that he's not close to a first team recall just yet."I still think I need a couple more games yet to get my fitness," he said. "I think I'm naturally fit anyway so hopefully that will come."There's another game next week so I'll play in that again and see how I feel from there. I just want to come back and play a couple of reserve games and see how I feel."I felt it after forty minutes running around, but it's just good to be back. I needed to go into a couple of tackles for my own piece of mind, and obviously I need to be tackled a couple of times as well to make me feel more and more confident, but that will come the more I play."Manager Eddie Howe was delighted to see McCann back but had a word of caution as to when we might see him back in the first team.He said: "It is fantastic to see him back on the pitch. We all know what a good player he is. It was only for a short period but he did very well in that time and now it's just a case of increasing his training and getting him some more match time."We would love to get him back fit and the priority is to do that and not rush him. He is still quite a bit away from first team football but it was a positive step."He's a real driving force in midfield. He is a terrific footballer and has a little bit of everything in his game. We are hoping he's past his injuries and he's through this time. We have to be careful and we have to manage him but we are fully prepared for that. We have to make sure that when Chris steps on that field he is able to do himself justice, he is able to do the team justice and he is able to perform."
