No change at the top

It's as you were at the top of the league with QPR and Cardiff still in the automatic promotion positions, but things could have been somewhat different given the events at those two's games on Saturday. Leaders QPR recorded a second successive home 0-0 draw against Norwich City who themselves are third in the league. QPR haven't even conceded a goal at Loftus Road this season but came close to doing so when they conceded a penalty. Fortunately for the leaders Wes Hoolahan failed to convert.A win for Norwich would have been enough to see them go into the top two should Cardiff not win at home to bottom club Bristol City, a reasonably easy task on paper. That proved not to be the case when City went 2-0 up after just eight minutes. Cardiff got one back very quickly and two free kicks by Pete Whittingham, along with some suspect goalkeeping from former England goalkeeper David James, ensured a Cardiff win. That means Bristol City are still bottom and are in the relegation places with Leicester and Crystal Palace. Leicester drew 1-1 at home to Hull and former manager Nigel Pearson who admitted to being 'delighted' with the point. New Leicester boss Sven Goran Eriksson showed his credentials when he showed all his footballing experience after the game to say: "We drew, but we could have won or lost."Crystal Palace remembered former manager Malcolm Allison, the very man who gave them their Eagles nickname, but they couldn't get any points in a disappointing performance at home to Millwall, a game that saw Claude Davis, the former Preston player, sent off.The only other red card of the day was for a current Preston player, Keith Treacy who received his after giving the penalty away for Derby's third in the biggest Championship win of the day. We've dropped to eighth in the table with Swansea and Coventry the two teams going above us, and both after away wins. The stats for the weekend are below along with the leading goalscorers in the Championship, each club's disciplinary record, and all tomorrow's fixtures. The Weekend ResultsSaturday 16th OctoberBarnsley 3 Nottingham Forest 1Middlesbrough 1 Leeds 2Cardiff 3 Bristol City 2Portsmouth 3 Watford 2Crystal Palace 0 Millwall 1QPR 0 Norwich 0Derby 3 Preston 0Reading 0 Swansea 1Ipswich 1 Coventry 2Scunthorpe 1 Doncaster 3Leicester 1 Hull 1Sheffield United 3 Burnley 3The Weekend StatsBiggest winDerby 3-0 v Preston (home)Total goals scored37 (19 home - 18 away)Player scoring most goals2Billy Sharp (Doncaster)Pete Whittingham (Cardiff)Highest Attendance26,117 - Derby v PrestonLowest Attendance7,005 - Scunthorpe v DoncasterTotal Yellow Cards35Total Red Cards2Most cards in a gameDerby v Preston (4Y 1R) - Andy D'UrsoQPR v Norwich (5Y) - Andy PennThe leading scorers (league only)8Jamie Mackie (QPR)7Chris Iwelumo (Burnley)6Jay Bothroyd (Cardiff)Danny Graham (Watford)Davide Somma (Leeds)5Kris Commons (Derby) - includes 1 penaltyHeidar Helguson (QPR) - includes 3 penaltiesAndy King (Leicester)Lewis McGugan (Nottingham Forest) - includes 1 penaltyJon Parkin (Preston)Billy Sharp (Doncaster) - including 3 penaltiesScott Sinclair (Swansea)Marvin Sordell (Watford)4Luciano Becchio (Leeds)Dexter Blackstock (Nottingham Forest) - includes 1 penaltyJames Coppinger (Doncaster)Stephen Dobbie (Swansea)Adam Hammill (Barnsley)Jimmy Kebe (Reading)Dave Kitson (Portsmouth)Steve Morison (Millwall) - includes 1 penaltyJason Scotland (Ipswich)Adel Taarabt (QPR) - includes 3 penaltiesHat Tricks (league only)11th Sep3 - Chris Iwelumo - BURNLEY v Preston14th Sep3 - James Coppinger - DONCASTER v Norwich14th Sep3 - James Vaughan - CRYSTAL PALACE v Portsmouth28th Sep3 - Jon Parkin - Leeds v PRESTONDisciplinary Record (all domestic games)ClubYRClubYRBarnsley200Middlesbrough191Bristol City131Millwall192Burnley263Norwich160Cardiff141Nottingham Forest190Coventry201Portsmouth181Crystal Palace204Preston303Derby160QPR150Doncaster141Reading213Hull200Scunthorpe111Ipswich182Sheffield United172Leeds202Swansea251Leicester152Watford140The Next FixturesTuesday 19th OctoberBristol City v ReadingMillwall v PortsmouthBurnley v BarnsleyNorwich v Crystal PalaceCoventry v CardiffNottingham Forest v MiddlesbroughDoncaster v DerbyPreston v ScunthorpeHull v Sheffield UnitedSwansea v QPRLeeds v LeicesterWatford v Ipswich
