Dean Ramsdale, who was with our community programme for some years, left to become Preston's director of youth in July 2006 with Jamie Hoyland, who was working in our centre of excellence as a coach, joining him as youth team coach.
The pair have continued in those roles at Preston for six years but both are set to leave with Graham Alexander taking the head of youth development role.
Preston are very much cutting costs and have announced today that there will be redundancies within the club in other areas, and Peter Ridsdale said of this news: "We have analysed the investment that has been put into youth development and the payback for the Club as a whole from such investment.
"A successful youth development programme can have major benefits for a football club and for us to continue to invest in the programme it is essential that the strategic objectives of the first team and youth team management are strictly aligned. "In keeping with the above objectives I am delighted to announce that Graham Alexander, who has just retired having made over 1,000 competitive appearances in professional football, is appointed to the position of head of youth development, Preston North End Football Club with immediate effect. Graham's experience, not just with us, puts him in a unique position to ensure that our investment in our youth programmes will be optimised in the coming years. "As a result of the above announcement Dean Ramsdale and Jamie Hoyland will be leaving the Club later on this year and we wish them all the best for the future. "
So it's good news for Grezza at a club he served so well as a player, but not so good news for Jamie and Dean.
