New boys shine in Watford opener
Eddie Howe fielding three new signings last Saturday as the new season got underway with a 2-2 draw against Watford and both the man of the match vote and player ratings reveal that all three of them - Kieran Trippier, Ben Mee and Keith Treacy - did well. Kieran Trippier - Man of the Match All three of them made the top four in both the man of the match vote and player ratings with just Mee missing out on player ratings points as he was pipped by one of last summer's signings, Ross Wallace. Trippier had an excellent debut at right back and showed the Burnley fans just what they'd be getting. He was excellent getting forward, in particular, and his delivery into the box was a feature of his play. Meanwhile, substitute Treacy came on with 26 minutes remaining and, although Watford scored their second almost immediately, he changed the game and made a major contribution to both goals, including a headed equaliser. These two players came out on top with Trippier winning the man of the match with a 35.7% share of the vote whilst Treacy's share was 29.3% giving him second place. The third new signing, Mee, took third place with 12.5% just ahead of Wallace who, with 11.8%, was the only other player to get double figures. The same four players were at the top of the player ratings with just the order changed. This time Treacy came out on top with a rating of 7.68 out of 10 whilst Trippier took second place, and his rating was 7.41. Again the next two were close but it was Wallace ahead of Mee in the player ratings with Wallace having a rating of 7.07 and Mee scoring 7.00 out of 10. And so the first points towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year go to these four players with both Treacy and Trippier winning five points and one point each for Mee and Wallace. The results of both man of the match and player ratings are below along with the initial Player of the Year Table. Voting for the man of the match from the Carling Cup tie continues until the end of today whilst the Crystal Palace vote will start tomorrow within an hour of the final whistle at Selhurst Park.
