Mears for Scotland

Burnley have been linked with a swap deal involving Tyrone Mears and Scotland. That's Wigan's Jason Scotland and not the national team even less successful than Fabio Capello's England. Jason ScotlandMears was reported to be wanting away in the Sunday press and that's alerted the self-titled Coylite from the Mirror, none other than Alan Nixon, who you would think would be more concerned with the goings on in Horwich. But he's taken time out to tell us that a swap deal is a possibility with Burnley wanting the striker who we showed an interest in last summer. He's reported that Brian Laws wants Scotland (Jason), and that Wigan boss Roberto Martinez fancies taking Mears as part of the deal.Which part he means is anyone's guess, but if there is anything in this at all I would think that it would be the other way round and Scotland would be part of the deal with Mears surely valued higher than the Trinidad & Tobago international striker.Scotland scored no fewer than 21 league goals for Swansea during the 2008/09 season in the Championship and when manager Martinez moved to Wigan he signed him in a £2 million deal. It hasn't proved to be a successful move and Scotland's only goal in 32 Premier League appearances came in a 2-1 defeat at Fulham in April. There should be no doubt that the 31-year-old will have now seen his value drop dramatically from that Wigan placed on him a year ago.
