Mears finding his feet at Burnley

19 December 2009 13:37
At 29, Mears' career has been a slow climb on a road that has seen him wear the colours of a number of clubs, among them Derby and West Ham.[LNB]The right-back failed to nail down a regular slot at either club through a mix of inconsistency or injury - he suffered a stress fracture during his time at Pride Park.[LNB]However this season it has been a different story and on Sunday he hopes to extend his ever-present league record when his side face Wolves.[LNB]He said: "The one thing that has caused me to stumble over the past few years was not playing regularly. It stalled the potential I had as a young player.[LNB]"I believe I am showing good form and consistency. That is because I am playing every game - there is nothing better than that.[LNB]"There is a lot of matches between now and January and I will relish every one of them. It is important we pick up points along the way and stay on the right side of the table."[LNB]Mears is hoping Burnley can get that vital league victory on the road at the ninth time of asking when they visit Molineux.[LNB]With both clubs anxious to maintain their top flight status after winning promotion it is a crucial match and one Mears is determined to take something from.[LNB]Burnley go into the game after a home draw with Arsenal and Mears said: "While we have picked up a lot of points at Turf Moor, it is the away form we need to sort out.[LNB]"Wolves fans will pack the place out and they are a good team but one we need to be taking points off.[LNB]"It is an important game for us and it is vital we get it right. Some of our performances have been good but not the results.[LNB]"We have got good players who can get forward and make things happen. These are the games we are going to be judged on and where we need to do the business."[LNB]Wolves manager Mick McCarthy provoked outrage by fielding a weakened team in midweek against Manchester United.[LNB]But Mears is focusing only on his game and added: "Everyone will be looking out for the result to see if he was right to do that. He has done it for a reason. That's why he is a manager."[LNB][LNB] Wolves v Burnley. Click here to bet.
