Mears: Clarets in the spotlight

13 July 2009 09:00
The Clarets gained promotion to England's top flight courtesy of their 1-0 Championship play-off final victory over Sheffield United back in May. Manager Owen Coyle has since been planning for the 2009/10 campaign as he looks to preserve the club's top-flight status. Part of that preparation has seen the capture of Mears from Derby, with the full-back signing a three-year deal at Turf Moor. A recent report drew attention to Mears' new team-mate Chris Eagles, who turned up to training in Lamborghini said to be worth £150,000. Mears, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, said in the Daily Express: "We're going to be in the spotlight now and we've seen this with Chris already. "People will want to bring us down and will make a big thing of the cars we drive. Chris was upset but I told him to expect it. "We have to stay strong, ignore it and focus on the football."
