McDonald in a confident mood

Now the midfielder is aiming to help the Scotland Under-21s take another step towards qualification for the UEFA Under-21 Championship when they travel to Azerbaijan for this weekend's clash.[LNB]As far as McDonald is concerned, his confidence could not be any higher ahead of the trip following his efforts at the City of Manchester Stadium.[LNB]It proved to be a good day for the Scots, with senior internationals Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher also on the scoresheet.[LNB]But it was McDonald who had the final say with the leveller just three minutes from time.[LNB]"It was brilliant for me to get the goal and great for the team to get a draw," he said.[LNB]"No-one expected us to go there and get anything. So to get a draw and to get a goal for myself was an added bonus.[LNB]"Chris Mitchell tried to get the goal up on YouTube but it wasn't there. The boys have been joking about it but I'm not too bothered what they think![LNB]"It was a great occasion for me scoring my first Premiership goal and it was my birthday that week as well so it was just a great week for me.[LNB]"It has given me a boost. But it's the same as any other time you come away with Scotland - we just have to work hard as a team and try to get a result and hopefully we can do that."[LNB]The young Scots head into Saturday's game sitting joint top of the table with Austria and Belarus, but McDonald admits they should have their noses in front.[LNB]He said: "We've had nine points out of 12 and to be fair we should have won the game against Austria away as well, it should have been 12 out of 12.[LNB]"I don't know anything about Azerbaijan at all. But the boys in the team know that we can go across there and win.[LNB]"People are saying we should win the game but we will have a look at the video clips and just go over there and work hard."[LNB]Meanwhile, boss Billy Stark believes the Under-21s are beginning to reap the benefits of McDonald's growing confidence in the Premier League.[LNB]He said: "That's something that you can never really plan for, a player coming to join us on the Monday having scored his first goal in the Premiership on the Saturday. It was obviously a great lift for him.[LNB]"Kevin did very well for us in Austria and I thought that was his best game for us. Against Belarus at St Mirren he also played well and worked very hard for us.[LNB]"So maybe he is starting to really come to terms with things down there as well and that's helping him every week. We look on him as a key player for us."[LNB][LNB]
