McClaren is new Forest boss
Nottingham Forest confirmed yesterday, at the time of the sacking of Billy Davies, that they were already in talks with former Middlesbrough and England boss Steve McClaren to replace him. This morning they have confirmed that McClaren has signed a three year deal with Forest with immediate effect. Having been assistant manager at both Derby and Manchester United, McClaren got his first management job at Middlesbrough in the summer of 2001 and was in charge on Teesside for five years before replacing Sven Goran Eriksson as England boss. That didn't work out and after defeat to Croatia at Wembley in November 2007, a defeat which meant we didn't qualify for Euro 2008, he left the touchline under his umbrella and was promptly dismissed by The FA. He had two successful seasons in Holland with FC Twente, lifting the Eredivisie title in 2009/10 before moving to Wolfsburg where he was sacked in February of this year. Recently he was linked with the Aston Villa job but was quickly dropped by owner Randy Lerner when there was too much opposition from fans. He now takes over a Forest side that have reached the play offs under Davies in each of the last two seasons.
