Shay McCartan was in form for Northern Ireland this afternoon in their under-17 Elite round clash with England but despite his goals it was England who came out on top in the first game in the tournament. England were expected to win the game but it was McCartan who broke the deadlock ten minutes before half time when he fired in a shot that went in off the post. The Irish lead didn't last long, six minutes to be exact when Everton's Hallam Hope played in Blair Turgott of West Ham who brought England level. It was 1-1 at half time but it was England who took control in the second half. Just two minutes in and they went in front with a Hope penalty and it took only another two minutes for Crewe's Nick Powell to make it 3-1.England looked to be coasting to victory at that point but Sam Magri (Portsmouth) brought down brought down Ireland's Joshua Barton and McCartan netted from the penalty spot.Northern Ireland will now move on to their next game which is against Spain in Tielen on Monday.
