Youth team player Shay McCartan has been called up for international duty with Northern Ireland later this month and will travel to Portugal as the Irish look to qualify for the finals of the Under-17 tournament. Four countries will take part in the Qualifying Round Tournament with the top two going forward into the Elite Round. Again, this will be staged in groups of four with the winners then going through to next summer's finals which will be played in Serbia.Portugal were drawn as hosts of this qualifying group which also includes Azerbaijan and Montenegro.Northern Ireland kick off against Montenegro at Póvoa do Varzim on 22nd October and then face Azerbaijan two days later at Maia before meeting the hosts on 27th October at Barcelos.Shay had to bide his time before getting into the youth team this season, one of three players waiting for international clearance, but he's very much involved now and has scored twice against Bury in the league and Chesterfield in the cup.He didn't score in the return game against Bury last Saturday at Rossendale but had perhaps his best game yet in Burnley colours, setting up the winner for Curtis Woods.
