McCann to be offered new deal

Chris McCann was back in training with the rest of the squad yesterday, fully fit after a season that was all but ruined by a knee injury sustained in the home win aainst Sunderland last September. Chris is just beginning the last year of his current contract, but hopefully that won't be the case soon with the club set to offer him a new deal."Once we get this pre-season under way that's one of the first things we will be doing and Chris knows that," manager Brian Laws said."I have spoken to Chris about it, even at the end of last season, and told him that we would be addressing his contract situation because we want him here for the long term."He is a great asset to this football club so we are not going to mess around. We are going to get into that as quickly as we possibly can."It is five years since McCann made his Burnley debut, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 home win against Coventry in August 200. He was expected to be a key player in the Premier League but that injury cost him just about the remainder of the season."I think he will be itching to get back in to get us back into the Premier League so he can have a taste of it," Laws added."He's been disappointed because he's not had as big a taste of the Premier League as he would have liked and I know he would have been a strong player for us."Time's a great healer and he will get over that, but I can see he has an ambition to play in the highest league and he will want to take Burnley into that league."
