McCann: I am getting close to fitness

Burnley midfielder Chris McCann will continue to tread carefully as he bids to return to full fitness after his 18-month injury nightmare.

The Irishman played 37 minutes as a second-half substitute in the reserves' home defeat to Oldham on Tuesday night. The run-out was McCann's first appearance since undergoing surgery last summer, following the recurrence of a knee injury sustained during the summer tour of Singapore.

McCann said: "I still think I need a couple more (reserve) games yet for my fitness.

"I think I'm naturally fit anyway so hopefully that will come.

"There's another game next week so I'll play in that again and see how I feel from there."
