Marney wins first monthly goal vote

18 September 2012 15:34
Last week, for three days, you were given the opportunity to vote for the August Goal of the Month, the first monthly vote of the season.

It proved to be anything but a contest with Dean Marney's goal against Port Vale in the COCUP winning it by some considerable distance.

It was Marney's first goal since February 2011, but it was an excellent finish and against seven other goals he won it with 57.9% of the vote.

That was way ahead of Charlie Austin who came joint second with himself. His goals against Bolton and Middlesbrough in the first two league games both claiming 13.2%.

None of the other goals reached double figures with Martin Paterson winning 7.0% for his goal against Bolton coming next and followed by Austin v Plymouth 4.4%, Chris McCann v Port Vale and Junior Stanislas v Middlesbrough both 1.8% and Austin v Port Vale 0.9%.

Marney becomes the first player to be guaranteed a place in the Goal of the Season vote in May next year.

The current voting is for the Man of the Match against Peterborough. You can vote via the front page or the VOTING POLLS page and you can leave your PLAYER RATINGS on the message board.

Voting will end tonight with the Leicester vote starting tomorrow night within an hour of the final whistle.
