Marney goal at Hull wins monthly vote

20 December 2012 16:27
For the second time this season Dean Marney has won a Goal of the Month vote. He firstly won in August with his goal in the Capital One Cup at Port Vale and he's now added November following his match winner at Hull.

It was the last of our six goals in November and came five minutes before half time in the game at the KC Stadium against his old club Hull. It proved to be the only goal of the game and provided the Clarets with what, to date, is our most recent victory.

It pooled 47.8% of the vote and that was some considerable distance ahead of Charlie Austin's late winner against Leeds. Austin scored with a header from a Kieran Trippier cross following a superb ball from Chris McCann to the full back.

That won a 29.6% share and Martin Paterson's opener against Wolves, Burnley's first goal under Sean Dyche, came third. Paterson latched onto a ball played down the left by Ben Mee and placed his shot through the legs of visiting goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

The remaining three goals were all headers. Austin's at Barnsley polled 5.2%, his goal against Wolves won 2.6% and Sam Vokes' headed goal at Portman Road against Ipswich received 0.9% of the vote.

Marney's goal will automatically go into the Goal of the Season vote in May alongside the previous three monthly winners and the best runners up. Also guaranteed a place in the vote are Marney v Port Vale (August), Austin v Millwall (September) and Paterson v Crystal Palace (October).
