MacDonald to go for another Burton

Alex MacDonald, released two weeks ago by the Clarets after seven years at Turf Moor, looks all set to return to Burton Albion where he spent the second half of last season.

MacDonald was one of four players, along with Wes Fletcher, Chris McCann and Jon Stewart, added to those previously released by the club, and it was very quickly evident that he'd agreed a deal with another club.

Interestingly, last week, newspapers in Devon were suggesting a return to Plymouth where he spent two loans during 2012, but that was never on the cards and today it has emerged that his likely destination is Burton for whom he made 17 appearances which ended with their play-off semi-final defeat against Bradford City.

Having made his Burnley debut against Cardiff at the end of the 2007/08 he went on to make just two starts for the club, both in the League Cup against Cardiff and Plymouth.

Most of his football since has come on loan, firstly at Falkirk and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, before his moves to Plymouth and Burton.

He now looks set to join Burton on a permanent deal and to help them go one better next season and win promotion to League One for the first time.
