MacDonald signs new deal

Alex MacDonald has this morning signed a new contract with Burnley, committing himself to the club for the 2011/12 season. Having spent the second half of last season at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the Scotland Under-21 international is now hoping to make an impact at Turf Moor, and said: "I'm looking forward to this year and hopefully it will be the year to get back in amongst the first team, which is something I'm looking to do. That's my aim. "I had a taste of it when I was younger here and that's something I want back, especially at this football club. This is the place where I wanted to be. "The manager has shown that he is going to give the young lads a chance so hopefully this will be the year for me. I feel this is the year I need to get through, otherwise I think it would be time to move on. "I'm confident in my own ability and I am confident that if I get a good pre-season under my belt I will be there or thereabouts in the first team." It's three years since Alex made his debut, coming on as a substitute in the last home game of the 2007/08 season against Cardiff, but he hasn't figured in the Burnley first team since the cup tie at Arsenal in March 2009.
