Little Billy joins the list as Hughton support continues

It never ceases to amaze me just how many potential managers are linked when a position becomes vacant and the latest to see his name added to the list is Billy Davies, the former Preston and Derby manager who is currently with Nottingham Forest. The abrasive Davies seems an unlikely candidate for Burnley but his ongoing problems at Forest have suggested for some time that his days at the City Ground are numbered and that he could be looking for a new opportunity. The betting keeps changing, as you would expect, but the names of Derek McInnes (St. Johnstone) and Eddie Howe (Bournemouth) remain up there as do the out of work Sam Allardyce and Phil Brown, and this despite Allardyce indicating he wouldn't take a job outside the Premier League.Roy Hodgson isn't quoted but that, to me, looks only a matter of time as he appears certain to follow Brian Laws and Darren Ferguson into the 'looking for a job' group. In the voting poll on Clarets Mad, over 2,000 votes were cast on the first of two days voting, and right now it is former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton who is leading the way.Whilst the search goes on for the new man it was interesting to read the comments from the League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan. The LMA do the talking for sacked managers now and whilst he conveyed decent and thoughtful words from Brian Laws I was more taken by what he himself had to say.Bevan said: "The LMA shares Brian's disappointment at his leaving the football club and we find the timing of his dismissal very strange in all the circumstances. The club is only two points off a play-off place with a game in hand."Burnley have the third best home record in what is a really competitive Championship, they have only lost six games this season and have not suffered back-to-back losses. In the Carling Cup, the club enjoyed a memorable win over Barclays Premier League outfit Bolton Wanderers and were only just edged out in extra time at Villa Park in the next round."Boxing Day's win at Oakwell was the first time Burnley had beaten Barnsley away for 79 years. Further, Burnley are currently highest placed in the Championship of the three clubs relegated last season."It is clear that Bevan has done absolutely no research before opening his mouth with these almost insulting words. Maybe he should have taken a look at our club's track record on managers. Had he done so he would have found that Burnley, more than most clubs, give their managers time.Maybe he should have taken a look at our results this season more closely, taken a look at the squad and noted how much it was underachieving. Maybe he should have been at Turf Moor on Tuesday, or watched a re-run of the game. And maybe he should also open his mouth when his members treat football clubs with utter contempt and walk out, as happened at Burnley less than a year ago. He can't have it both ways.
