Laws plays down McCann injury

Burnley manager Brian Laws has played down Chris McCann's knee problem that he picked up in the recent pre-season friendly win over Gombak United.

The Clarets eased to a comfortable 5-0 victory, but McCann was substituted after collecting the injury.

However, Laws has insisted he was replaced as a precaution and he is fit to continue with the club's preparations ahead of their Championship opener against Nottingham Forest on August 7.

Speaking to Burnley's official website, Laws said: "He has had a clash of knees and just numbed the side of his knee a little bit. It was a precaution to take him off because he could have come back on.

"The physio assures me there is nothing to worry about, his knee has been iced down and he should be ok.

"We are all concerned when a player goes down, especially Chris McCann after the trouble he had last year with his knee and we don't want that to happen again.

"Chris has had a fantastic pre-season, he has worked so hard and nobody is concerned about the injury. "
