Laws hopes for Nugent impact

Burnley manager Brian Laws is hopeful that loan striker David Nugent will begin to impress after returning to Turf Moor for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old one-time England international missed the 2-1 loss at Chelsea due to delays in his return to the Clarets from Portsmouth, but has now sealed a return to Lancashire.

Laws told the Evening Telegraph: "It ended up being complicated when the negotiations should have been simple. It has been difficult for him because he's been from pillar to post.

"But there's no danger of him losing focus because of it. If anything he will be more focused than ever.

"He could be up for grabs in the summer and he's got the chance now to play in the Premier League for the rest of the season and show how good a player he is.

"Hopefully he can do that and help to keep us in the Premier League."

Nugent has scored three goals in 17 appearances for Burnley so far this season, but has found the net just once in his last 15 outings.
