    Laws critical of mistakes

    28 Feb 2010 - 10:58:33

Boss Brian Laws cut a forlorn figure after seeing his Burnley side suffer a potentially decisive 2-1 victory at home to rock-bottom Portsmouth.

The Clarets remain deep in trouble near the foot of the Premier League table after a poor display at Turf Moor and Laws is preparing for a major fight for survival in the next few months.

He told the club's official website: "Results are always difficult to take when you lose, even more so when it's your own fault.

"If the opposition do something wonderful you have to hold your hand up. But there's no beating around the bush, we were our own worst enemies.

"We are devastated to have handed the points over and as a manager you cannot legislate for that.

"The fans showed at the end that they were very disappointed and I fully understand that. They will be because this was a game we felt we should win.

"It was not a must-win game because there are other games to come. But it was a must-not-lose because each point you gain in the Premier League is a big one and the fans saw today that we should have got that.

"To lose it in such a manner disappoints everyone.

"You have to move on to the next game and it's not as if this was a decider. What we can do is move on and look to put things right because we have enough games to play and a hell of a lot of points to gain.

"I believe we have enough to survive. There wasn't a great divide between the two sides today and yet we are competing against sides with four, five times our salaries.

"The devastating thing is we have lost the game, but if we maintain the level of effort and commitment we have been showing, particularly in the second half, I will be happy."
