Laws shock as Clarets pay penalty

rian Laws was stunned to see Graham Alexander miss a penalty and just as surprised when Burnley failed to win at home to Bristol City.[LNB] The Clarets dominated Saturday's Championship clash at Turf Moor from start to finish but saw their 100% home record disappear as a result of their wasteful finishing, City's solid defending and a helping of bad luck as the game finished 0-0.[LNB]The usually-reliable Alexander wasted the clearest chance when he sent his first-half spot-kick wide, failing to score from the spot for the first time in a Burnley shirt.[LNB]But the home side had more than enough opportunities to claim all three points.[LNB]"You could see the silence and the shock that we hadn't won the game," said Laws. "We've had something like 25 shots on goal and the goalpost and bar have been very supportive (for City).[LNB]"We know we've dropped two points, but you've got to give credit to the opposition because they've obviously seen us in midweek and come here with a gameplan.[LNB]"I think we were all shocked when Graham Alexander's penalty went wide. It becomes a formality. He has a phenomenal record and it was probably inevitable he'd miss one eventually.[LNB]"He's disappointed because he believes they are a formality, but I certainly won't be giving him a hard time. He'll be working hard and he'll be first in line the next time we get a penalty."[LNB]Despite Burnley's dominance, the Robins nearly stole all three points when Jon Stead's effort from 12 yards produced a magnificent save from Brian Jensen.[LNB]The draw was only the second time City have kept a clean sheet in their opening nine games of the season, and manager Keith Millen was certainly a happy man with the shut-out.[LNB]"If someone had offered us a clean sheet before the game we would have snapped their hand off," Millen said. "It is definitely very important to keep a clean sheet with our defensive record.[LNB]"The main problem we've had has been with individual mistakes and teams haven't had to work too hard to score against us. Maybe missing the penalty was that bit of luck we needed.[LNB]"I thought the penalty decision was just two players going through and colliding, and not too dissimilar to the one Jon Stead had.[LNB]"We know Chris Iwelumo is a terrific targetman and a handful and we dealt with him well. We also dealt with all the second balls well because he has a lot of quality around him.[LNB]"David James has kept us in it and whether his presence in goal put Alexander off I don't know."
