Laws: Jack a Cork-er for Clarets

02 February 2010 09:17
Laws recruited five players in the transfer window and re-signed striker David Nugent on loan from Portsmouth until the end of the season.[LNB]The latest to arrive on a similar short-term deal is Chelsea's England Under-21 midfielder Jack Cork.[LNB]He follows Leon Cort, Danny Fox, Frederic Nimani and goalkeeper Nicky Weaver in beating a path to Turf Moor.[LNB]Laws believes the squad needed freshening up as Burnley find themselves locked in a relegation battle and facing a swift return to the Championship.[LNB]Cork, who signed a three-year contract at Chelsea in August, arrives after a loan spell with Coventry.[LNB]He has travelled far and wide to gain experience, wearing the colours of Watford, Southampton, Scunthorpe and Bournemouth.[LNB]Laws said: "I am very pleased to get Jack in. We feel we have got a good acquisition to the squad.[LNB]"I have tracked him for quite a while. He's played a lot of games in the Championship and has been greatly admired for his football.[LNB]"He is very good on the ball, can deal with it in tight situations and doesn't give it away cheaply.[LNB]"I think his qualities will embrace the fact that we want to play good football."[LNB]Cork is relishing the challenge that lies ahead.[LNB]He said: "I am very excited about the future after playing in the Championship the last three years with various clubs.[LNB]"It was great experience and hopefully I can now push on in the Premier League. I want to impress people.[LNB]"Football is all about taking opportunities. I'll be training hard and hopefully playing well."[LNB][LNB]
