Laws demands Clarets improvement

urnley boss Brian Laws is looking for a much-improved performance from his side when they take on Aston Villa in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

The Clarets go into the fourth-round match at Villa Park after suffering their first home defeat of the season on Saturday when they were well beaten 4-0 by Reading.

Laws says the display against the Royals was unacceptable and he is seeking a reaction against the Villains to set the Lancashire side up for two tough league away matches against Championship high-flyers QPR and Norwich.

He told the club's official website: "Saturday was poor and I can't disguise it. We have got to move on and you can't ask for a better game than Aston Villa away in the cup when hopefully we can dust off that performance.

"Historically we have had really good cup runs and you couldn't ask for a bigger test. It's a great competition we are in and at this stage it's not too far away from the final, so this is a massive game for both parties.

"Hopefully Saturday was a blip but you can only say it's a blip if you respond in your next game. It won't be easy against Aston Villa but hopefully we can bounce back with a good performance there and get a good result to set us up for our away games."
