Knee surgery for Paterson
23 Sep 2009 - 18:44:22
Burnley have been dealt a blow after it was confirmed that Martin Paterson will have to endure surgery on the knee injury he sustained in Tuesday night's Carling Cup defeat at Barnsley.
However, goalkeeper Brian Jensen should have recovered from the dead leg he picked up in the same game in time to face Tottenham on Saturday.
Both players were stretchered off during the first half at Oakwell as the Clarets slumped to a shock 3-2 defeat.
Boss Owen Coyle said: "We've had mixed news on the two lads.
"As we thought, Brian suffered a dead leg and I'm hopeful he could be fit for the weekend.
"But the news on Martin Paterson is a little worse. He's tweaked a cartilage and will undergo an operation on Wednesday night, at which point we'll know further how long he'll be sidelined for."
