Kettle to boil at Norwich

05 November 2010 10:09
Nigel Miller, Iain Williamson and now Trevor Kettle from Rutland. I'm not sure what we've done to deserve this but Kettle follows the other two to take charge of our game at Norwich tomorrow. Last season was a strange one for a referee who, since joining the Football League list in 2003, has built up a reputation for waving his red card just about more often than any other referee. Season by season he was averaging double figures but last season, in 35 games, there wasn't a solitary red card and his yellow cards were also reduced to just 102, less than three per game. This will be his fifth Burnley game and there has been just one red card previously, that of Steven Caldwell in our Christmas defeat at Doncaster two years ago, although his performance at Sunderland at the end of the 2006/07 season was one to remember for a catalogue of dreadful decisions including penalty awards at both ends that were shockers. After a quiet start to the current season he's been warming up with his cards. Two of his last three games have both seen eight yellow cards and there have been red cards in each of his last two games. He's refereed ten games and there have been 38 yellow cards of which 18 have gone to home team players and 20 to away team players. His red card has come out a total of three times. The first of them saw Cardiff's Darcy Blake sent off in their 2-1 win at Barnsley and he followed that up by dismissing Luke Foster of Stevenage in their 2-1 home win against Burton Albion. His last game was the League One game between Swindon and Leyton Orient at the County Ground two weeks ago. Leyton Orient's Ben Chorley and Matt Spring were both yellow carded in the 2-2 draw and Swindon's Alan Sheehan was sent off for violent conduct with the score at 0-0. Swindon Town reported it as follows: "Referee Trevor Kettle, who had threatened to seriously affect the game throughout, did just that after 53 minutes, when he thrust a red card at Alan Sheehan."Kettle currently sits in 44th place out of 46 in the RATE THE REF table. The assistant referees tomorrow are Gary Jerden and Nick Kinseley (both Essex). The fourth official is Philip Knight (Kent).
