Kalvenes returns to Brann

Having returned home to Norway Christian Kalvenes has signed a contract until the end of 2010 with Sportsklubben (SK) Brann. This will be his third spell with the club with whom he started his professional career back in 1995 and will hope he's able to establish himself in their first team, something he was unable to do during his previous two spells with the club based in his home town of Bergen.Because of the transfer window and contract situation, Kalvenes will not be able to play for his new club until the beginning of August.Brann ended the 2009 season in fifth place in the Premier League in Norway, called the Tippeligaen, the season running from March until November. Kalvenes has signed until the end of this season although he wanted a deal that would also see him remain with the club throughout the 2011 season. He does have an option for a contract in 2011 based on appearances in the remaining games during the 2010 season.Brann coach Rune Skarsfjord said: "He has played at a higher level than our own and that's important both in training and in the games. He is a local boy and is a good role model, especially for the younger players at the club."He has trained with us for a while now and will work hard until he can play for us. He's a 100% guy and it was fortunate for us that he wanted to come home and back to Brann."Kalvenes admitted that he would have liked to have returned ahead of the new season in March but said he'd always planned to return home after his contract ended at Burnley and wanted to return to SK Brann. He said, despite being 33, that he believes he has a number of years in front of him and said he would take his example from Burnley's Graham Alexander.
