Jimmy Mac to get MBE at the Turf

21 July 2011 23:50
Jimmy McIlroy received an MBE in this year's New Year's Honours List and will now receive it in front of the Turf Moor crowd on the opening day of the season when the Clarets play Watford. Jimmy will receive his honour from the Queen's representative on Saturday 6th August rather than meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace, and this was Jimmy's decision. "I love the Burnley fans and they have been so good to me that I'd like to share this honour with them," Jimmy said. And this will come just one day after the board of directors at Turf Moor discuss a proposal to make Jimmy McIlroy the club's first President since the late Doctor Iven held the position. The investiture will take place at 2:45 p.m. with Jimmy's family present and the honour will be bestowed by Lord Shuttleworth, the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire and I'm sure the Burnley fans will want to be in their seats early for this one. Clarets Mad sent their congratulations to Jimmy at the end of December last year when news was received of the honour, and now  this brilliant news means many Burnley fans will have the opportunity to see arguably our greatest ever player become James McIlroy MBE.
