Jim has worked for Burnley FC for over 66 years now and such has been his dedication through his work on the turnstiles and the ticket office as well as selling programmes at reserve team games, he was nominated for and won the Football League's Unsung Hero Award in March 2011.
However, Jim surpassed this week when he represented the game of football at Buckingham Palace when, for the first time ever, a game was played in the grounds, between two of the oldest clubs Polytechnic and Civil Service.
A total of 150 medals were handed out to specially selected grassroots heroes and ten medals went to ten supporters and unsung heroes who were rewarded for their outstanding contribution to the services of football.
The ten were; Paul Bradley (Preston), Jeff Hall (Chesterfield), Stanley McGowen (Bury), Paul Samrah (Brighton), Warner Duff (Ipswich), Sue Pollard (Plymouth), Neil Le Milliere (Exeter), Kevin Monks (Coventry), Billy Neil (Millwall) and Jim Thompson.
All of the medals on the day were presented by HRH The Duke of Cambridge whose dad, we are told, is a Burnley supporter himself.
