It's been reported this morning that Jay Rodriguez is close to signing a new deal that will keep him at Burnley for considerably longer than the end of the current season. Jay's current contract expires this summer and it's been a talking point amongst Burnley fans since he became a regular in the first team and more so since his international debut this week for England Under-21s.Former manager Brian Laws said some time ago that talks were in progress and they have continued since Eddie Howe arrived last month.Howe said there should be some positive news very soon and said: "It's something we picked up on as soon as we got here. As soon as we were made aware that he was out of contract at the end of the season it became number one on our priority list."We're very keen for Jay to stay, and I think I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in saying that. We've been very impressed by him since we came in and we're sure he has got a really good future in the game."I think it's quite close, so hopefully we can get it done. Negotiations have been underway for some time, so hopefully we will have some news soon."
