It's time to vote the best of the 70s

21 June 2011 11:31
With the 1980s vote completed, and Trevor Steven joining the 90s and 2000s winners, Glen Little and Robbie Blake, it is time to cast your vote for the player you thought was the best for Burnley during the 1970s. This period covers the seasons 1970/71 to 1979/80 inclusive. Both were relegation seasons; the first seeing us drop out of the top flight after 24 years and at the end of the decade the inevitable drop into the third tier of English football. Between we had a promotion in 1972/73 season when we suffered only four league defeats, and that led to two fantastic seasons back in the first division before a second relegation signalled the start of the club's decline. A total of 67 players were used by the club during that decade and last week nominations for the top players were posted on the message board. That's left ten players from whom the final selection will be made of Burnley's best player of the 1970s. No fewer than seven of them were in the promotion team of 1972/73 and they sit alongside Terry Cochrane, Steve Kindon and Peter Noble . The ten players have been listed in alphabetical order and all you need to do now is go to the voting poll down the right hand  side of the front page and cast your vote. You might also wish to leave your five nominations for the 1960s. A thread is already underway on the message board with all the players listed at the top. Just leave you five choices. The 1970s vote will run until the end of Friday.
