It's time for the Goal of the Month

05 October 2011 09:58
As the Clarets enjoy the international break, we can take a look back at the last month and make a choice on which of the nine goals scored was the best, those goals coming against Peterborough, MK Franchise, Southampton and Nottingham Forest. Charlie Austin - August winner with Burton goal

The month started with a 2-0 home defeat against Middlesbrough and by the time we'd found the net for the first time, in the next game, we were already 2-0 down at Peterborough. From then on things looked up with nine goals scored and only three conceded.

The first of the goals was Keith Treacy's strike from outside the box at Peterborough and that was followed up by two from defenders as we turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win against MK Franchise in the Carling Cup.

The first was a well taken free kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net from Kieran Trippier, his first Burnley goal, and the game was won by Andre Amougou's deflected overhead kick as extra time beckoned.

Charlie Austin scored the goal against Southampton, turning in a knock down from Jay Rodriguez and the opening goal against Nottingham Forest saw the roles reversed as Charlie got a header back across from Jay to head home.

Jay got the next too, heading home a Junior Stanislas cross before Chris McCann netted from close range after an Amougou effort had been blocked following a corner.

Ross Wallace extended the lead to 4-0 just before the break with a solo goal and Austin completed the month's scoring with the fifth against Forest, looping a header over Lee Camp that crossed the line before it was cleared.

The voting will run until the end of Friday and can be found on the right hand side of the front page or on the VOTING POLLS page.

Charlie Austin's strike won the August vote and the September winner, as is the case with all monthly winners, will be guaranteed a place in the Goal of the Season vote next May.
