It's just about been Jack Cork Week
Just a week ago it was all quiet on the transfer front with Burnley fans searching for any news on potential incoming players or even on any that might be leaving the club. Most interest was centred on Chris McCann and Jack Cork, the two midfielders most Clarets want to see wearing our shirt again next season, and with Chris out of contract and Jack now back at Chelsea it is just a matter of waiting for news.Chris, I believe, has been back in Ireland, but for Jack Cork it has been very much news week both on and off the field with offers for his services (football that is) and a night out in Marbella to contend with. He seemed to make the most of being photographed with Amy Childs coming out of a night club at some unearthly hour but as news of his night out hit the British press the only way was definitely not Essex for the midfielder. Whilst he was enjoying his holiday the news came that both Southampton and Blackpool had had offers for him accepted by Chelsea. That hit the panic button on the message board. The directors were slated and one poster was adamant we'd missed the boat, saying: "It was obvious, to me, he wouldn't be signing," as he pointed the finger of blame at the feet of Brian Laws and Barry Kilby. It turned out that Blackpool hadn't had any such offer accepted; they said so themselves, and who would disbelieve an Oyston? As for Southampton; it might be no surprise given he's played there before and also played for their manager Nigel Adkins at Scunthorpe.Of course, an offer being accepted means nothing other than they are free to talk with the player. Those with short memories will have forgotten that we had a very similar situation just a few months ago when Swindon accepted an offer from Ipswich for Charlie Austin. I don't recall Austin signing for Ipswich. So will Cork sign for Southampton? Or for that matter will he sign for Blackpool or any of Swansea, Leeds and Nottingham Forest who seem to be constantly linked with him? Maybe so, maybe not, and whilst all this has been going on make no mistake, Burnley haven't been sat there giving up on the player who has said more than once that he'd like to sign for us. I'm not sure that yesterday's news of us having had an offer accepted by Chelsea is the case but there is no doubt that Burnley are ready to go into battle to do all they can to bring Cork back to Turf Moor. Burnley FC is not in Essex Jack, but as you know, it really isn't the only way. It might have been obvious to some that he wasn't signing but I would still like to think that we'll be kicking off next August with both Jack Cork and Chris McCann in Eddie Howe's squad.
