Ings lit up the Forest win

30 September 2013 16:39
Just six days ago we beat Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup to earn a tie against West Ham United in the fourth round next month. I don't think too many will be surprised that the man of the match winner was Danny Ings.

Ings turned in an outstanding performance for the Clarets and scored both goals as we came from behind to win the tie 2-1. His first, right on half time, will be one of the special goals of the season I'm sure, and his second was a header from a Junior Stanislas free kick.

His performance overall was such that there were no contenders as he romped home with both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

He polled 78.0% of the man of the match vote. That's the best this season, beating the 62.7% Ings recorded for the Birmingham game played just one week before. Having won such a large amount of the vote there was little to choose between the rest although Ben Mee, at left back, and Keith Treacy who came in to play on the right of midfield, both deservedly secured 5.2% to jointly take second place with Kieran Trippier, somewhat surprisingly, getting fourth place although his share was just 2.6% of the vote.

Ings was a clear winner in the player ratings too. He had a rating of 8.89 out of 10 and that was a full point ahead of strike partner Sam Vokes who was second with a 7.89 rating. The next two places went to defenders. Jason Shackell was third with a rating of 7.44 and a rating of 7.28 out of 10 gave Ben Mee fourth place.

The points awarded for this game were ten for Ings, four for Mee, three for both Trippier and Vokes, two for Shackell and one for Trippier.

These latest points have helped cut Shackell's lead at the top of the Clarets Mad Player of th Year Table and it is no surprise, given current form, to see the two strikers coming up behind him in that table.

Ings has moved on to 38 points now, just 12 behind Shackell and Vokes is in third place with 29 points.

Voting will continue for the Charlton game until the end of tomorrow and you can vote for the man of match via the front page of the site or the VOTING POLLS page. Your Player Ratings can be posted on the message board. Wednesday will see the start of the vote for the Doncaster game.
