Hughton is your choice

01 January 2011 09:07
Former Tottenham coach and Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has come out on top of the poll conducted here at Clarets Mad to give supporters an opportunity to choose who they would like to see as the new manager. That should all but guarantee Hughton not getting the job given the record of voting polls on this site when the club have been looking for a new boss. On the last two occasions the eventual manager hasn't even been on the list and never has the result ever come close to selecting the eventual new boss.Hughton won 28.9% of the vote and that left him clear of former Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce who came second with 18.9%. No one else received double figures with the next two being Eddie Howe and Derek McInnes who are currently in charge of Bournemouth and St. Johnstone respectively. The only ex-Claret on the list was Manchester United's assistant manager Micky Phelan. He polled just 2.9% of the vote this time, considerably less than he got almost a year ago. Then, Steve Coppell was the choice with him and Alan Curbishley some distance clear of the rest of the field. There will be twists and turns over the next week or so as names come into the frame and drop out again. Just keep a look out for the names that seem to hang around the longest; they usually proved to be the most likely. The result of the poll, in which over 2,500 votes were cast, was:28.9% - Chris Hughton18.9% - Sam Allardyce9.0% - Eddie Howe8.0% - Derek McInnes7.9% - Phil Brown6.1% - Sean O'Driscoll5.2% - Paul Lambert3.4% - Lee Clark2.9% - Micky Phelan1.3% - Paul Jewell & Gareth Southgate1.2% - Steve Cotterill1.0% - Paul Tisdale0.6% - Gary Megson0.4% - Stuart GrayThere was a 4.7% vote for others.
