Howe wants play-off surge with Burnley

Burnley manager Eddie Howe was convinced his side's display in their 1-1 draw at Cardiff was good enough to warrant all three points.

Steven Thompson stepped off the substitutes' bench to head a deserved late equaliser against his former club as they trailed to Michael Chopra's opener for Cardiff in first-half stoppage time.

Cardiff extended their unbeaten league run to seven games since back-to-back defeats at the turn of the year but played second fiddle for long periods to Burnley, who have climbed to within five points of the play-offs.

Howe said: "We deserved to win the game as we were in control apart from the opening 15 minutes. We bossed possession, particularly in the second half and although before the game I would have been pleased with a point, now it's over I think we should have had all three.

"To concede right on half-time was a disappointment, particularly as their player had time for two touches. I would love to think we could make a late surge towards the play-offs but we have some tough games coming up.

"I've kept my philosophy from my Bournemouth days and inherited some very good players here so hopefully we can carry on the good work."
