Howe rues Pitman reminder

Brett Pitman reminded his old boss of his scoring ability as Burnley's play-off hopes suffered another blow with a 2-0 defeat at Bristol City. The striker, sold to Bristol by Eddie Howe last summer while he was still Bournemouth manager, opened the scoring three minutes before the break with an unstoppable finish from Albert Adomah's right-wing cross. A dreadful back-header from Clarke Carlisle 20 minutes from time gifted the killer second goal to Nicky Maynard, who rounded Lee Grant before tapping into an empty net. It was an all too familiar sight for Clarets boss Howe, who admitted: "Brett is the last man you want to see receive the ball in that sort of position as an opposing manager. "I have seen him score goals like that many times. I never wanted to sell him at Bournemouth and I'm sure he will go on to be an even bigger force in the Championship. "We were better than in our previous match, but still disappointing at both ends of the pitch. "It's an understatement to say that this is a bad time in the season to be dropping points and one from a possible nine is not good enough. We need to work hard during the international break, which may well have come at a good time for us."
