Howe plans Paterson withrawal
urnley boss Eddie Howe plans to withdraw Martin Paterson from the Northern Ireland squad after he picked up an injury against Watford.[LNB] Paterson had received his first international call-up in a year for next week's Euro qualifier against the Faroe Islands but was taken off at half-time against the Hornets after admitting he did not feel "100 per cent".[LNB]Howe now plans to speak to Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington about pulling him from the midweek game.[LNB]The Clarets manager said: "Martin was just not feeling 100 per cent. I wouldn't say it was a recurrence of any injury, but he said he couldn't play to his full potential, so he had to come off.[LNB]"We need to make sure we get him 100 per cent. He has done all his pre-season and been fine, so it came as a bit of a surprise because I thought he looked quote sharp in the first half as well.[LNB]"He won't go with Northern Ireland now though. We will try and speak to them and tell them we need him here with us."[LNB]Watford found themselves 2-0 up in the second half of this npower Championship opener after Craig Forsyth's header just before the break and Mark Yeates' cool finish in the 70th minute.[LNB]But Charlie Austin pulled one back seven minutes later and with six left on the clock, another substitute Keith Treacy headed the equaliser at the far post.[LNB]Howe added: "In the end though it was a really good fightback.[LNB]"At 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go it was always going to be difficult, but Keith came on and gave us real impetus and the lads kept fighting for each other and we were really pleased with the point.[LNB]"In the first half we passed and moved the ball really well and created chances, then on the stroke of half time we found ourselves 1-0 down, which was a huge disappointment.[LNB]"Then we went 2-0 down and again we didn't feel we'd done too much wrong, but we kept going and got our rewards in the end."[LNB]On Treacy, a summer signing from Preston, Howe added: "Hopefully Keith will be a huge acquisition for us.[LNB]"He's got talent in abundance, he can go by players and he has two really good feet.[LNB]"When he scored with the header I even said to Jason (Tindall) 'I didn't know he had that in his locker!'[LNB]"But it was a great finish from him and in the end it's just a shame the game couldn't go on longer."[LNB]New Watford boss Sean Dyche was pleased with his side's display in the first match of his tenure.[LNB]"Overall I was pleased, the only disappointment was to give away two soft goals," Dyche said after the game.[LNB]"But the reality is Burnley is a tough place to come. They have a very experienced squad and very talented players and they are another team who will be fancied to be up there this season.[LNB]"To come and take a point is pleasing but we do demand of our players to win and the idea was to come here to win."[LNB]The Clarets were the better side in the first half and Dyche admitted: "Burnley are a good side, they moved the ball well and we didn't move it as well as we hoped but we kept our shape well and were dogged.[LNB]"I thought the back four were excellent and the keeper - they calmed things down for us.[LNB]"We didn't play as well as we can using the ball but that will come, we had four players out there playing their first game for the club. They are learning and gelling."[LNB]
