Howe in O'Dea move

It's Sunday, it's the Sunday tabloids, and this week we've been linked with a move for a player Owen Coyle was keen to bring to Turf Moor, Celtic defender Darren O'Dea. We have to go back two and a half years to our last link with the Republic of Ireland defender when Coyle was looking to strengthen his defence during the difficult period, league wise, in January during the promotion season. The deal didn't happen and it was Rhys Williams who came in from Middlesbrough, with O'Dea remaining at Celtic for the rest of that season. He's since played in the Championship twice. He had a three month deal with Reading from September to December 2009 when he played eight games for the Berkshire club, and he sent all last season with Ipswich, starting 17 league games for the Tractor Boys. Today's speculation suggests that having missed out on Jason Shackell we've now offered Celtic £400,000 for O'Dea who has made nine appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
