Howe gone - who do you want?

Burnley yesterday confirmed the departure of manager Eddie Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall. Once their contracts have been agreed they will return to previous club Bournemouth in the same roles.

Already the speculation is mounting and, laughably, Sky Bet immediately installed former manager Owen Coyle as favourite. The former manager who lied to us on his way to Horwich in January 2010 lost his job this week, but there is nothing more certain than the fact that he won't return to Burnley.

There is no way on God's Moses' Judas' earth that, with such as Barry Kilby and Clive Holt on the board, a return would be sanctioned and tonight, chief exec Lee Hoos said: “I just couldn’t see how that one could happen.

“Obviously I wasn’t there when the whole Owen Coyle saga happened but I got enough feedback to know that there was a very bitter aftertaste and I just couldn’t see a way back for that one."

Hoos added: “Being free and available is not necessarily the hallmark of what we're going for. It has to be the right person – the right man for right job at the right time.”

So, who is that right person?

I've scouted around on the message board and one or two other places and checked which names are being discussed, which might be potential candidates. I've not included Coyle, nor have I included any former Burnley managers who are out of work such as Steve Cotterill and Brian Laws.

There are some ex-Clarets on the list, some of whom are currently managing, one who is coaching, one who has been a Football League manager and one who has worked as an assistant over a number of years to both Gary Megson and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Some on the list I wouldn't want to see at Turf Moor, some I'd be reasonably happy with and one or two are intriguing enough to get me very interested.

Anyway, it's up to you. You can choose from Graham Alexander, Michael Appleton, Paul Cook, Billy Davies, Steve Davis (that's the one at Crewe and not the one who walked out with the aforementioned Coyle), Paolo Di Canio, Sean Dyche, Keith Hill, Warren Joyce, Steve Lomas, Mick McCarthy, Micky Mellon, Micky Phelan, Ole Gunnar Solskaer and Gareth Southgate.

As always you can vote via the front page or the VOTING POLLS page and the vote will run until the end of Monday.
