That one man was Tommy Boyle and Mike Smith, author of the recently published book on the former Burnley cup and league winning captain, will be presenting an illustrated lecture at Burnley Central Library. Mike's book, entitled 'Tommy Boyle - The Story of a Football Legend' was published in July and he's now set to give this illustrated lecture on Boyle, a real footballing hero and legend whose life came to such a sad end. Mary Brown and her team at the Central Library will be adding a display of Burnley photographs and other items whilst there could be other football items from the period on display. The lecture is under the title of 'Tommy Boyle, Burnley and Bullets: How one man changed the fortunes of Burnley Football Club, 1911-1924'. Mike will be talking about Tommy, a member of the famous Halley-Boyle-Watson half back line, and it will be held on Wednesday 19th October (the day after our game at Barnsley, Tommy's first club), starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the lecture is free but is by ticket only. These tickets can be obtained now from the main reception desk at the Central Library. For those not familiar with the library, just go through the main doors and straight across into the main lending library. The reception desk is down the right hand side. The book is also available from the club shop at Turf Moor, priced at £11.99. I can promise you a good read.
