Forward Zavon Hines has become Eddie Howe's latest Burnley signing in a move from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee. Eddie Howe has completed the signing of Zavon Hines The Jamaican born Hines joined West Ham from school and signed his first professional deal with them in the summer of 2007. He played in the first team during pre-season but his first competitive football at first team level came later in the season with Coventry City. He joined Coventry on loan but didn't break into the starting line up. He made his debut as a substitute in a 3-1 home win against Plymouth at the end of March 2008, and in the next game scored the Coventry goal in a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday. Both appearances were from the bench, as were all seven of his appearances for the Sky Blues. The following season saw him make a debut for West Ham, coming on as a substitute in the Carling Cup against Macclesfield. The game went to extra time before West Ham went on to win 4-1 with Hines scoring the third goal. He broke into the side in the first half of the 2009/10 season and scored his only Premier League goal, the winner in a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa. He was making his 13th Premier League appearance of the season when he replaced Carlton Cole at half time on our visit to the Boleyn Ground in November of that year. Unfortunately, a week later, he suffered an injury in a home hammering to Manchester United that ended his season. Even so, he'd done enough to win the Young Hammer of the Season Award. That injury was suffered on 5th December 2009 and it was 5th December 2010 when he returned to the Premier League, this time at Sunderland. As West Ham struggled, eventually being relegated, he played occasionally but failed to score any goals. He's also had something of an eventful international career. He was called up by Jamaica for a friendly international against Nigeria in February 2009. This was the game in which Tyrone Mears made his only international appearance. Hines didn't play and in October of the same year made a debut for England under-21s at Coventry's Ricoh Arena. He came on in that game as a substitute for Theo Walcott and scored twice in a 6-3 win. A month later he again came on as a sub, this time for Fabrice Muamba in a 0-0 draw in Lithuania, but hasn't been called up since. He was out of contract at the end of last season. It looked recently as if he was about to sign a new deal at West Ham, but that didn't happen and today he's become the latest addition to the squad at Burnley having completed a two year deal with the fee to be decided by a tribunal.
