Heaton saves at Leeds take him to the top

26 September 2013 11:50
Tom Heaton made two big and important saves at Leeds, the best of which was the point blank save on the line to deny El Hadji Diouf in the second half with the score at 2-0.

Those saves, coupled with his overall performance, have won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings for this game, our third away win in the league this season.

In what was, overall, an outstanding team performance, it is surprising that one player polled as much as 42.8% of the vote for the man of the match, but that was Heaton's total in taking first place.

Sam Vokes, who gave the Leeds defence a very difficult afternoon and scored our second goal, was in second place. He had 24.7% of the vote and that was ahead of Scott Arfield, who opened the scoring and claimed 12.2%  to take third place, and Jason Shackell who was fourth with just a 4.1% share.

The same players were all right up there in the player ratings too with Heaton becoming the first player to hit nine out of ten this season; his rating was exactly nine.

Again Vokes was in second place and not far behind either. He had a rating of 8.86, and with eight players scoring eight or more, Shackell was third with a rating of 8.29 and just behind a rating of 8.21 out of 10 gave both Arfield and Michael Duff joint fourth place.

The points awarded for the Clarets Mad Player of the Year are the maximum ten for Heaton and six for Vokes. Behind them, both Arfield and Shackell won three points with Duff collecting one point.

It's helped Shackell to increase his lead at the top of the table again; he's now twenty points clear of Danny Ings in second place and below that there are five other players within ten points of that second place.

The voting for the Preston game continues until the end of tomorrow. You can vote for the man of the match either from the front page of the site or directly from the VOTING POLLS page. The Player Ratings can be posted on Eli's Message Board.

The Charlton vote will start within an hour of the final whistle on Saturday.
